Visiting Artist at Buchanan Elementary, Branson, MO

On Oct. 23-24, 2014, I was a visiting artist at Buchanan Elementary School in Branson, MO, where I talked about my paper cuttings and animations and did projects with nearly 500 (!!) 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders over both days. Many thanks to them for being such a great audience and willing participants. We had lots of fun together! And many thanks to their art teacher Darla Chapman-Speelman for inviting me to come! I just returned from my last outdoor show of the year, the Maple Leaf Festival, in Baldwin City, KS. Where did the time go? I feel like I was just gearing up for my first outdoor show of the year… I’m super excited to be a visiting artist with 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in Branson, MO, this week! I’ll be with them all day Thursday and Friday and have a couple fun projects to do with them! Then its back to the cutting board to dig into some new work that’s been doing a jig in my brain for awhile. I’ve got so many things I want to do, but that issue with time… must. build. machine. to slow it all down…

Colorado…

I’m home after several terrific days in Colorado. Thanks to the kind folks of Boulder for a great weekend at OpenArts Fest. Here’s a few pics from a day spent in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Joy
By Carl Sandburg

LET a joy keep you.
Reach out your hands
And take it when it runs by,
As the Apache dancer
Clutches his woman.
I have seen them
Live long and laugh loud,
Sent on singing, singing,
Smashed to the heart
Under the ribs
With a terrible love.
Joy always,
Joy everywhere—
Let joy kill you!
Keep away from the little deaths.
