My first experience with the art form of paper cutting was through stop motion silhouette animation. I had seen “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”, a stop motion silhouette animation from 1926 by artist Lotte Reiniger, and knew in an instant that I wanted to do something like it. “Turtle’s Escape” was my first animation, and I still play around with animation here and there between art projects and shows. I recently did animated sequences for “Daughters of the Forest”, a documentary about an all girls school in Paraguay that strives to empower its students in an area scourged with extreme poverty and deforestation. This documentary premiered on PBS in the summer of 2016.
