Rummaging through old work..

This is a design I worked on but never came to full fruition. Based on things in California, including driftwood, sunsets, & cypress trees.

I’ve added 8 new greeting cards to my Etsy shop. I’ll be adding some more announcement sized cards and a bunch of new prints over the coming weeks.
New retailer! If and when in Michigan, check out Holly Candle Shoppe in Holly, MI, run by a woman also named Holly. My cards are now available there. They are located at 109 Battle Alley.
During the first week of February, I’ll be giving a presentation and demonstration of my art and life as an artist to 5th grade art students at Pinckney Elementary School in Lawrence, KS. Made possible by a private donation to the Pinckney art program.
And finally, I’ve been invited to be part of an exhibit called “Paper Anniversary” at the View Arts Center in Old Forge, NY. This exhibit will run from Mar. 10 – May 6, 2012. Opening reception is Sat., Mar. 10 from 2-5pm.

This came from a dream I had about a month or two ago.. I can remember seeing a variation of this image (in the dream, origami paper was used and the image was oriented horizontally) and the words “separating wholeness from reality” sort of just floated though. So, I thought I should do myself the favor of making it since it came through seemingly for the purpose of doing so.

“I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do. I feel as if this tree knows everything I ever think of when I sit here. When I come back to it, I never have to remind it of anything; I begin just where I left off.” -Willa Cather, O Pioneers!
…On a different note, it’s a slow time of the year for me where I take advantage of lots of time at home and totally loaf around whilst trying to gather some new insight and come up with some new ideas. Doing lots of reading, thinking, being, writing, drawing, and planning. That said, new works coming soon..

Feeding the neighboring birds & squirrels (and sometimes a stray cat or two) has become one of my daily rituals. I enjoy having them around.

5 x 7 inch paper cutting. Sold.

From left to right, top to bottom:
1. My old batik bedspread (served as inspiration for the curtain in this painting)
2. My boot collection (the first pair inspired this painting)
3. A necklace that I found in my attic about 20 years ago
4. Book on the floor next to my bed that I’ve been meaning to read
5. A poster that I bought when I was 16 that has traveled with me to and fro
6. My favorite belt

Hand cut paper. Both measure 16 x 16 inches.
These hang on my living room wall as a set. I did them awhile back trying to figure out a design solution, and they sat in a folder for a long time until I finally had some wall space to give them a proper home.
