Fall. Literally.

queenanne

Today I fell down. No.. I totally turfed. A combination of fresh acrylic spray and rain made for a slippery surface on my deck (I was sealing a new batch of earrings out there), and with my treadless shoes, I went flying.. And I managed to knock over a couple pieces of deck furniture and bang up my left wrist real nice (not my cutting arm, luckily) as I fell onto my backside. Tis’ the week for losing my footing, I guess. Lessons to learn, reminders to be mindful, etc. Resilience prevails, I think. If not, tomorrow I’m getting a haircut. Shedding some excess always improves things. (Cutting my hair short was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I had a lot to shed.)

In other news, I’ve been overwhelmed with online orders this week. Thank you SO MUCH to all you folks who’ve been shopping in my Etsy store, many who were directed there from the current issue of Midwest Living magazine. I’m going non-stop these days.

Info plus Music: Sandy Denny & The Strawbs – You’re Always On My Mind

I’m on a total posting binge (aka procrastination) and Sandy Denny Strawbs kick.

Also a note to say THANKS to all you folks who came out to Love Garden Sounds (my favorite record store) last Friday for Final Fridays. Super duper thanks to Aaron at LGS for the arduous task of hanging my artwork from basically the ceiling. It was a great time, Maria the Mexican put on a great performance, and of course, I bought more records including some old gospel-bluegrassy stuff and Jackson C. Frank (original writer of Blues Run The Game, and coincidently Sandy Denny’s boyfriend at some point in history). Goooooood stuff.

Coming up next Saturday: Crafts and Drafts at the Uptown Theater shopping area in Westport, Kansas City. 25+ beers on tap, 75 artists and crafters.. Should be a great time.

Animation Stuff

I had this goal to do a bunch of animations this year, and I’ve been going full tilt at everything else that contributes to my livelihood.. not that thats a bad thing. But I love animation and the moving image (old school types), and I’m eager to get my hands back on my animation gear to make some new things over the winter months. I just ordered a praxinoscope — hoping to use some of these in my upcoming exhibit in Omaha. They’re an early animation device that I’ll never be good at describing, so read more about there on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praxinoscope. Below is a video of the same model that I purchased. I should have it next week and I’ll post some experiments here.
