Music: The Louvin Brothers – Lorene

There’s a lot going on this morning in my backyard after a night of hard rain.

I had a great show on Sunday at Art in the Park in Lawrence, KS. I was honored to get the first place prize/ ribbon for 2-dimensional art. We all really lucked out with the weather — it looked slightly threatening all day but didn’t start lightning and thundering and raining until about two minutes before I had my car all packed up and ready to leave at the end of the day.. Thanks to everyone who came out.
Getting ready to head over to my other favorite place in Lawrence (and my other employer besides myself), the Lawrence Arts Center, to see Chuck Mead and His Grassy Knoll Boys perform, opening with a documentary about the Quonset Hut Studios in Nashville. Coincidentally, I was at a house party where Chuck (a Lawrence, KS, native) and his band were performing in Nashville a couple years ago and saw him perform again exactly a year ago in Lawrence. They always put on a great show – especially for us hometown folks.

I’m really excited about this one. I got some new tissue paper that is metallic gold on one side and I used it in this paper cutting. I just finished it up and it’s drying underneath a stack of heavy books. Photo coming soon.. This will be part of the “A Cut Above” exhibit – geared towards children — at the Sabatini Art Gallery at the Topeka Public Library in June.

8 x 10 inch paper cutting.

I rotated this image, but the paper cutting is actually hanging upside down on my wall so I could get it out of the way to work on the others… Taking a break to mat some prints (and maybe ice the arm I cut with). At this rate, I’m hoping I can have these three that I’m working on finished by Saturday night so I can display them at Art in the Park in Lawrence on Sunday. Doing a little anti-rain dance to ward away Sunday’s predicted “potentially severe” storms.
I finished cutting this out, but I still need to add color and background.. I took a break from work earlier to have dinner (at Freestate Brewery — mmmmy favorite place) with my dad and stepmom who rolled through town. I’ve always enjoyed their motto (on the glass)– a quote from The Diary of Brother Epp, Capuchin Monastery, Munjor Kansas, 1902.

Trying to finish my works for the cut paper exhibit (opens June 1) at the Sabatini Art Gallery at the Topeka Public Library. I’ve started cutting into the smallest one.. hoping to finish it tonight — my life is going to be a paper cutting marathon for the next couple days.
