Tiny Birds – Original Paper Cuttings

tinybirds010213

These tiny birds are always a top seller at the larger shows where I can only sell originals and I’m trying to get a handle on them before the show season by making one or two everyday. However, I’m going to list some in my Etsy shop soon as well. The birds on the right side sell for $35 and come framed to 3 x 4 inches. The bird in the vase sells for $65 and comes unframed and matted to 5 x 7 inches (it’s easier to ship unframed). Check back tomorrow for new listings: http://ruralpearl.etsy.com.

Snow Squirrel

A nice new blanket of snow fell on Monday. My wool sweater & stocking cap have been my constant companions. I keep imagining this fellow in a sweater and stocking cap too… paper cutting idea, perhaps..

Bald Eagle Family – Dec. 29, 2012

Adult and juvenile bald eagles feasting on/ fighting over/ sharing a fish on a sandbar in the Missouri River, Atchison, KS, Dec. 29, 2012. One of the most amazing things I’ve ever watched occur in nature. I went back today and they were posted in various trees. I lucked out finding them with their meal yesterday (which they were enjoying for quite awhile until one of the juveniles tried to take off with it and dropped it in the water).

Owl!!

barredowl122912rp

My fire burned long enough, and nature provided. I got out onto the roads today with my camera, and spent over an hour watching a family of bald eagles having a meal on a sandbar in the Missouri River. A last minute trip to Wal-Mart and a keen eye (I’ve got my eyes pretty well trained to spot animals from the road) yielded this owl sighting. It was certainly one of my best days as far as getting photos of the birds I seek the most.. Thousands of eagle photos to sort through (yikes! I basically made a movie of photos…). More to come.

This morning I took a little jaunt out to the country to do a photo project for my friend Jeanette and couldn’t pass up taking some photos for myself. Most refreshing was a walk through the woods where we subsequently discovered a pack-rat dwelling and heard red-tailed hawks screeching as they glided through the trees. Felt great to be out there.. and to come home with thorn-worn jeans.

Roald Dahl’s Thoughts

Love me some birds (San Diego, 2012), and love me some Roald Dahl.

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” -Roald Dahl
