O You Whom I Often and Silently Come

“O YOU whom I often and silently come where you are, that I may be with you;
As I walk by your side, or sit near, or remain in the same room with you,
Little you know the subtle electric fire that for your sake is playing within me.”

by Walt Whitman (1819–1892). from Leaves of Grass.

Rooster

Rooster

I can remember hearing chickens and roosters when I was growing up, but I don’t really remember seeing them. I think my next door neighbor, Mr. Neely, kept some in his backyard by his old shed. There was a fence between our yards covered in lilac bushes that obscured the view. I’d like to smell those lilacs and hear those roosters calling right about now.
