Come out this weekend to the Plaza Art Fair in Kansas City, MO. Ranked as one of the top 10 art fairs in the country, the Plaza Art Fair draws over 300,000 spectators. It began yesterday (Friday) — thank you all for keeping me on my toes. I’ll be there from 10am to 10pm Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. I’m booth 520 on Ward Parkway between Pennsylvania and Broadway facing Brush Creek. Come by!

“Sending to You” – Cut Paper Art
This is one of two paper cut designs of mine that are going to be published as greeting cards by Artists To Watch. According to their website (artiststowatch.com), “Artists to Watch is an award-winning, greeting card company. For 25 years we have been publishing the work of talented and independent artists from around the world, crafting high quality cards that meld visually intriguing images with thought provoking words.” They use recycled paper for their cards and print with soy-based inks. The catalog with my cards should be coming out in a few weeks for orders for early 2011. I’ll keep you up-to-date.
A few weeks ago, the art director from Time Out Chicago contacted me to do a paper cutting for their Fall Preview issue highlighting upcoming autumn attractions such as music, nightlife, fashion, etc. It’s on newsstands this week. Here’s a sneaky little unrevealing preview of a book cover design I’ve been working on for New York City poet Ryan Buynak’s next collection of works. It’s pretty much wrapped up now and I’m pretty excited about it — it’s something a little different than the norm and was really fun to work on. I’ll post the final design when it’s ready to hit bookstore shelves.

There’s this line from Kerouac’s On The Road that comes to my mind when I read Ryan’s work – I would gather this aptly describes him: “[…] the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars […]”

I’m home from my recent travels and back to work. Finishing up a couple illustrations of Native American folk tales that are going to be used as part of a product insert– more info on that down the road. Also working on a couple commissions before I dig my heels into personal work for my incredibly busy September and October of art shows & travel.
Starting this Friday, my paper cuttings will be displayed at Frick Electronics Modern Art Gallery in the Englewood Arts District in Independence, MO. I don’t have all the details on that yet, but I’ll surely post them when I do.
And one last thing, I’ve finally updated my Etsy shop with all (or at least pretty close to all) of my prints that I have available for sale. I’m going to try to get some of my originals listed for sale online soon for those of you that have inquired. (Click the picture to go to my Etsy store.)
