At my mom’s dinner party last night, I inherited a box of records left behind by one of her friends that moved to Canada a few years ago. (This made me feel like it was MY birthday). Some notables included The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Revolver, Ian & Sylvia, lots of Arlo Guthrie & Pete Seeger, Julian Bream, and Flute Music of the Andes.. After everybody left and I got things back to some order, I was going back through the records and noticed the Ian & Sylvia record felt extra thick, as if there were two records in it.. and I pulled out one of my all-time favorite albums: The Byrds – Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I love it when stuff like that happens.
To follow my what has become yearly tradition of forcing myself to do an animation for Valentine’s Day.. I’ll probably go back in and rework some things in this since Rome wasn’t built in a day (but this was) and I didn’t have the hang of the things I needed, but I think it came out alright anyway.. sleep. Happy Valentine’s Day…
I’m finally putting my new animation & motion software into use as I work on a short, simple Valentine’s Day animation. Of course, there’s always a glitch.. My software driver for the sound mixer (that brings the sound from the microphone to the computer) is a little old and discontinued (although it works perfectly well on my brother’s computer), does not work with my operating software on my new computer, so sound quality won’t be where I want it since I’m recording through the computer mic, but oh well.. I think it’ll turn out alright anyway. Here’s my previous valentine’s day themed animations from the previous two years. (I always feel like I’ve drank 5 pots of coffee when I’m making animations.. that’s how I know I like it so much — I get all excited.. hopefully I can make more time to make lots more.)
Many thanks to you folks that came out to the Lola Valentine’s Day Show last Saturday in Lawrence. It was a fun show to be a part of. No more fair type shows until April.. My next event is the Monster Drawing Rally on Mar. 1 in Kansas City.
Besides that, I’m trying to create new works, I’ve got 3 design projects and a couple commissions in the pipeline, and I’m working on a very short Valentine’s Day animation to follow tradition (I’ve made one the last two years so why stop now). I realized I was fooling myself into thinking I could have a longer animation ready for the March 1 deadline for the Free State Film Festival. I’ve got the story written and have started storyboarding, but things seem to compound on top of that and it keeps getting pushed back. Must pay the bills first I suppose.. Anyway, new things to come. I’ll also be restocking Essential Goods, 1109 Gallery, and putting new stock into Phoenix Gallery, all in Lawrence, tomorrow.
I’ve been invited to be part of this year’s Monster Drawing Rally, and it kicks off the beginning of Kansas City Design Week 2013. I’ll be doing some ‘live’ paper cutting, and the artwork will be auctioned off afterward. It’s also part of the First Friday festivities in KC. I’ll post more when the date draws nearer.
I spent the better part of Sunday afternoon hiking around a friend’s and her neighbor’s wooded property out in the country. This bird flying above caught my attention. More photos to come.. but first, must finish printing, matting, getting ready for art fair, etc.
My first show of the year is coming up this Saturday in Lawrence. I’ve been spending many, many hours getting prints & cards ready, and I’ll be rolling out a few new ones. I’ll have a bunch of smaller originals available too. My larger originals are hanging at the Douglas County Law Library Art Gallery through March.
