Her work is heavily inspired by her love of nature and the tranquility of the terrain of rural Kansas.

Pickman has been featured in Midwest Living and Martha Stewart Living magazines, and her animation work appears in Daughters of the Forest, a PBS documentary, in the summer of 2016. In 2018, her first children’s book, Merry Menagerie – Animal Antics from A to Z, was released. She has won numerous awards for her work, including an Independent Music Award for album art.

She received her master’s degree in 2004 from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, which is where she first learned of the art of silhouette animation artist Lotte Reiniger (1899 – 1981). Reiniger’s style and technique inspired Pickman to set off on the artistic path that she continues today

“I began cutting paper in 2003 after seeing “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” – a cut paper stop-motion silhouette animation from 1926 by Lotte Reiniger. I had always wanted to be “an artist” – I knew from a very young age that it was my life calling, but it took me a long time to figure out in which medium this would manifest itself. The traditional forms taught in school never felt quite right, but when I saw Lotte’s work, something clicked.”

Pickman was born and raised in Atchison and has a studio in Lawrence, KS.

EDUCATION
Master’s Degree, May 2004
Interactive Telecommunications, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, New York City, NY
Bachelor’s Degree, May 2001
Business Administration (Major) and Art (Minor), Benedictine College, Atchison, KS

EXHIBITS & PRESENTATIONS
2016 – “A Cut Above”, Solo Exhibit, Derby Public Library, Derby, KS
2016 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2015 – “New Works by Clint Ricketts and Angie Pickman”, Cider Gallery, Lawrence, KS
2015 – Solo Exhibit, Miller Nichols Library, UMKC, Kansas City, MO
2015 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2015 – “Rural Tranquility” – three artist exhibit, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, Newton, KS
2014 – “Kansas Natives”, Lawrence Arts Center ArtShares, Lawrence, KS
2014 – Visiting Artist, Branson Buchanan Elementary School, Branson, MO
2014 – Solo Exhibit, Michael Phipps Gallery, Omaha Public Library, Omaha, NE
2014 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2014 – Solo Exhibit, Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, Lawrence, KS
2013 – Solo Exhibit, Douglas County Law Library and Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, Lawrence, KS
2013 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2012 – Solo Exhibit, Lawrence Community Theater, Lawrence, KS
2012 – Invited presenter, Paper Cutting Workshop, Topeka & Shawnee County Library, Topeka, KS
2012 – Invited Artist, “A Cut Above” Group Exhibit, Sabatini Gallery at the Topeka & Shawnee County Library, Topeka, KS
2012 – Invited artist, “Paper Anniversary” Group Exhibit, View Arts Center, Old Forge, NY
2012 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2012 – Invited Artist, “Recycled Fairy Tales: The 200th Anniversary of Grimm’s Fairy Tales” Group Exhibit, Buell Children’s Museum at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo, CO
2011 – Public Art Installation, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2011 – Invited Artist, “Scratch, Sprinkle, & Cut: Conversations in Black & White” – three artist exhibit, Carnegie Cultural Center, Ottawa, KS
2011 – Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2011 – Invited Artist, Fresh Start. She received her master’s degree in 2004 from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, which is where she first learned of the art of silhouette animation artist Lotte Reiniger (1899 – 1981). Her love of nature and the tranquility of the rural terrain, as well as Reiniger’s style and technique, inspired Pickman to set off on the artistic path that she continues today. She exhibits at galleries and art fairs nationally, does illustration, animation and design work, conducts public presentations on her art, and teaches various art classes and workshops. Most recently, her work has been featured in Midwest Living and Martha Stewart Living magazines, and her animation work premiered on PBS in the summer of 2016 in the documentary "Daughters of the Forest".

"I began cutting paper in 2003 after seeing “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” - a cut paper stop-motion silhouette animation from 1926 by Lotte Reiniger. I had always wanted to be “an artist” - I knew from a very young age that it was my life calling, but it took me a long time to figure out in which medium this would manifest itself. The traditional forms taught in school never felt quite right, but when I saw Lotte’s work, something clicked."

EDUCATION
Master's Degree, May 2004
Interactive Telecommunications, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, New York City, NY
Bachelor's Degree, May 2001
Business Administration (Major) and Art (Minor), Benedictine College, Atchison, KS

EXHIBITS & PRESENTATIONS
2016 - "A Cut Above", Solo Exhibit, Derby Public Library, Derby, KS
2016 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2015 - "New Works by Clint Ricketts and Angie Pickman", Cider Gallery, Lawrence, KS
2015 - Solo Exhibit, Miller Nichols Library, UMKC, Kansas City, MO
2015 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2015 - "Rural Tranquility" - three artist exhibit, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, Newton, KS
2014 - "Kansas Natives", Lawrence Arts Center ArtShares, Lawrence, KS
2014 - Visiting Artist, Branson Buchanan Elementary School, Branson, MO
2014 - Solo Exhibit, Michael Phipps Gallery, Omaha Public Library, Omaha, NE
2014 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2014 - Solo Exhibit, Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, Lawrence, KS
2013 - Solo Exhibit, Douglas County Law Library and Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, Lawrence, KS
2013 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2012 - Solo Exhibit, Lawrence Community Theater, Lawrence, KS
2012 - Invited presenter, Paper Cutting Workshop, Topeka & Shawnee County Library, Topeka, KS
2012 - Invited Artist, “A Cut Above” Group Exhibit, Sabatini Gallery at the Topeka & Shawnee County Library, Topeka, KS
2012 - Invited artist, "Paper Anniversary" Group Exhibit, View Arts Center, Old Forge, NY
2012 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2012 - Invited Artist, “Recycled Fairy Tales: The 200th Anniversary of Grimm’s Fairy Tales” Group Exhibit, Buell Children’s Museum at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo, CO
2011 - Public Art Installation, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2011 - Invited Artist, “Scratch, Sprinkle, & Cut: Conversations in Black & White” - three artist exhibit, Carnegie Cultural Center, Ottawa, KS
2011 - Invited Artist, Lawrence Art Auction & Exhibit, Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, KS
2011 - Invited Artist, Fresh Start.
