Longfellow:<\/p>\n<p>Young and beautiful was Wabun;<br \/>\nHe it was who brought the morning,<br \/>\nHe it was whose silver arrows<br \/>\nChased the dark o&#8217;er hill and valley;<br \/>\nHe it was whose cheeks were painted<br \/>\nWith the brightest streaks of crimson,<br \/>\nAnd whose voice awoke the village,<br \/>\nCalled the deer, and called the hunter. <\/p>\n<p>     Lonely in the sky was Wabun;<br \/>\nThough the birds sang gayly to him,<br \/>\nThough the wild-flowers of the meadow<br \/>\nFilled the air with odors for him;<br \/>\nThough the forests and the rivers<br \/>\nSang and shouted at his coming,<br \/>\nStill his heart was sad within him,<br \/>\nFor he was alone in heaven. <\/p>\n<p>     But one morning, gazing earthward,<br \/>\nWhile the village still was sleeping,<br \/>\nAnd the fog lay on the river,<br \/>\nLike a ghost, that goes at sunrise,<br \/>\nHe beheld a maiden walking<br \/>\nAll alone upon a meadow,<br \/>\nGathering water-flags and rushes<br \/>\nBy a river in the meadow. <\/p>\n<p>     Every morning, gazing earthward,<br \/>\nStill the first thing he beheld there<br \/>\nWas her blue eyes looking at him,<br \/>\nTwo blue lakes among the rushes.<br \/>\nAnd he loved the lonely maiden,<br \/>\nWho thus waited for his coming;<br \/>\nFor they both were solitary,<br \/>\nShe on earth and he in heaven. <\/p>\n<p>     And he wooed her with caresses,<br \/>\nWooed her with his smile of sunshine,<br \/>\nWith his flattering words he wooed her,<br \/>\nWith his sighing and his singing,<br \/>\nGentlest whispers in the branches,<br \/>\nSoftest music, sweetest odors,<\/p>\n<p>Till he drew her to his bosom,<br \/>\nFolded in his robes of crimson,<br \/>\nTill into a star he changed her,<br \/>\nTrembling still upon his bosom;<br \/>\nAnd forever in the heavens<br \/>\nThey are seen together walking,<br \/>\nWabun and the Wabun-Annung,<br \/>\nWabun and the Star of Morning. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excerpt from Song of Hiawatha, by Henry W.
