Already day-dreaming about spending a few weeks in the mountains next summer. This will be my fourth summer trucking around the state, and my third summer that includes art shows.<\/p>\n<p>And since in my head, everything ought to be a poem, here&#8217;s the first verse from one of my favorite poems, Song of the Open Road, by Walt Whitman:<\/p>\n<p>\nAFOOT and light-hearted, I take to the open road,<br \/>\nHealthy, free, the world before me,<br \/>\nThe long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.\t <\/p>\n<p>Henceforth I ask not good-fortune\u2014I myself am good fortune;<br \/>\nHenceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,<br \/>\nStrong and content, I travel the open road.\t <\/p>\n<p>The earth\u2014that is sufficient;<br \/>\nI do not want the constellations any nearer;<br \/>\nI know they are very well where they are;<br \/>\nI know they suffice for those who belong to them.<\/p>\n<p>(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens;<br \/>\nI carry them, men and women\u2014I carry them with me wherever I go;<br \/>\nI swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them;<br \/>\nI am fill\u2019d with them, and I will fill them in return.)<\/p>\n<p>\n<i>Read the rest of Song of the Open Road on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bartleby.com\/142\/82.html\">Bartlby.com<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the fringe benefits of doing out-of-town shows is that I sometimes get to &#8220;vacation&#8221; around in my off-time.
