It’s going to come out all right\u2014do you know?
\nThe sun, the birds, the grass\u2014they know.
\nThey get along\u2014and we\u2019ll get along.<\/p>\n

Some days will be rainy and you will sit waiting
\nAnd the letter you wait for won\u2019t come,
\nAnd I will sit watching the sky tear off gray and gray
\nAnd the letter I wait for won\u2019t come.<\/p>\n

There will be ac-ci-dents.
\nI know ac-ci-dents are coming.
\nSmash-ups, signals wrong, washouts, trestles rotten,
\nRed and yellow ac-ci-dents.
\nBut somehow and somewhere the end of the run
\nThe train gets put together again
\nAnd the caboose and the green tail lights
\nFade down the right of way like a new white hope.<\/p>\n

I never heard a mockingbird in Kentucky
\nSpilling its heart in the morning.<\/p>\n

I never saw the snow on Chimborazo.
\nIt\u2019s a high white Mexican hat, I hear.<\/p>\n

I never had supper with Abe Lincoln.
\nNor a dish of soup with Jim Hill.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019ve been around.
\nI know some of the boys here who can go a little.
\nI know girls good for a burst of speed any time.<\/p>\n

I heard Williams and Walker
\nBefore Walker died in the bughouse.<\/p>\n

I knew a mandolin player
\nWorking in a barber shop in an Indiana town,
\nAnd he thought he had a million dollars.<\/p>\n

I knew a hotel girl in Des Moines.
\nShe had eyes; I saw her and said to myself
\nThe sun rises and the sun sets in her eyes.
\nI was her steady and her heart went pit-a-pat.
\nWe took away the money for a prize waltz at a
\n Brotherhood dance.
\nShe had eyes; she was safe as the bridge over the
\n Mississippi at Burlington; I married her.<\/p>\n

Last summer we took the cushions going west.
\nPike\u2019s Peak is a big old stone, believe me.
\nIt\u2019s fastened down; something you can count on.<\/p>\n
