Bulls-Eye

That’s my grandfather on the far left. This is probably around 1925.

I’ll have some new paper cuttings to share next week. This week I’m trying to get all other art fair items checked off my list (I have, what feels like, an eternal to-do list.. don’t we all, I suppose). I squeezed in 30 minutes of reading time earlier — I’m reading, as I’ve mentioned before, Pioneer Women: Stories from the Kansas Frontier, and that sort of inspired me to take a look back at all these old pictures that I have. It’s kind of amazing to look at the development that has occurred over the last 150 years in this area (but also see land that is still seemingly undeveloped, thankfully).. especially when every day seems to fly by ..and my to-do list is barely scratched. I digress. Til next time…

Video: PSYCHEDELIC LIGHT SHOW UFO 1967: Soft Machine

I’ve always been drawn to these psychedelic liquid light shows after seeing the work that Bill Ham did during concerts in the 60s. The visuals are basically the projected results of mixtures of oil, water and pigment. I’ve been thinking about trying out something like this to use as a backdrop, or maybe as some element within, for some experimental silhouette animation.

New prints.. old printer..

I think I’m burning my printer out. It’s been running pretty steadily all day.. Lots more prints printed, and lots of new prints that I haven’t yet offered to the public. And lots of matting to do in the morning. And then a chicken with it’s head cut off.. so to speak (kinda how I feel right now). My printer is rebelling. I think I’ll give it a break and call it quits for the day.

printerZeleny Art Fair this Saturday in Parkville, MO. Lawrence Art In The Park the following weekend, and Wichita Art & Book Fair the weekend after that. Lots of events coming up… lots of things left to do. I think regardless of how prepared I am, I’ll never feel prepared.

Wedding Commission, etc.

commerp

This is a commission of Comme in Melbourne, Australia, for a couple who got married there. Also working more on the food truck logo today, doing some more printing, packaging, planning, etc..

And.. all my hoopla about the meteor shower last Sunday morning before dawn– I fell back asleep after waking up to do some computer work, and woke up once more drearily to the sound of gusty wind and decided that I would be much more cozy under my blankets in bed. I’ve proven to be a total wimp… but I’m alright with that. I stayed warm.

Baby Robins

babyrobins

While staying in my old bedroom at my mom’s house over the weekend, I heard a bunch of chirping out the window and discovered this nest of baby robins in the pine tree right outside. (I have to note that this pine tree was my grandma’s christmas tree when she was a child –she grew up in the same house– and it now towers over the house). I was taken back to when I arrived in Kansas in 2009 — I was staying in this room and about a week after I arrived I found that there was a nest right outside my window. I got to watch the entire process from egg-laying until they flew the coop, and I documented the whole thing on camera. I blogged about it a few times and you can find a post HERE (with links to related posts within).
