“A man gazing on the stars is proverbially at the mercy of the puddles in the road.” -Alexander Smith
(3 photos of a puddle in my mom’s driveway, the sky during the 2009 Perseid meteor shower, and an autumn moon above Kansas meshed together in photoshop).
This isn’t until June, but registration is going to open up soon. I’ll be giving a presentation & workshop in conjunction with the “A Cut Above” exhibit at the Sabatini Gallery at the Topeka Public Library on Saturday, June 30, from 3 – 4:30. For ages 10+.. The room will hold about 30 people. We’ll be talking about paper cutting, making shadow puppets, and how to animate them. I’ll post a registration link when it’s available. Also found out Cindy Ferguson and Nikki McClure are part of this exhibit along with Clay Rice and Beatrice Coron. It’s gonna be a good one.. and I’m honored to be exhibiting amongst them.
Taking a break from cutting paper all morning and giving the hands a rest. I’ve got 4 different works in the works.. Something that popped in my head this morning: I read some interview with some artist once, and I can’t remember anything except that he (I remember that it was a ‘he’ at least) said that he enjoyed making art because there are no boundaries. I liked that.
This is just the beginning.. art shows start approaching, and my work room starts expanding into the rest of the house and every table becomes a work surface, every free space along the wall is temporary storage, my couch is now my print matting station..
“I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.” -Claude Monet
A summery flower photo seems appropriate since I’m taking a break from work-stuff and sitting outside in Kansas on Feb. 1 in a t-shirt in the sunshine.. It’s making me feel a little seasonly off-balance, but I’ll take it. I’ve been giving my printers a run for their money all morning trying to get prints and greeting cards ready.. first art fair of the year coming up in less than two weeks..
