Thanks to everyone who entered their best Animal Band Name on my Facebook artist page for their chance to win 12 assorted Rural Pearl buttons. My judges picked their favorite in a blind jury, and both picked this one:
“Squirrel Earl and the Backwoods Beavers”
by Tripp K. Yay for Tripp! He won the buttons!

Like nesting dolls, or Matryoshka dolls, but birds instead. 16 x 20 inches. I’m really excited about this one. Something a little different… I’ll post the finished paper cutting soon!
Check out the history of Matryoshka dolls on Wikipedia HERE. When I lived in Brooklyn, there was this Russian man who had weekend sales of items that he’d buy and sell out of his garage, and he had several sets of beautiful, ornate nesting dolls for sale. I really wanted to buy a set, but they were wayyyy out of my price range, and understandably so. Someday… someday…

I’m honored to have been asked to give a presentation about myself and my artwork to the Mulvane Women’s Board of the Mulvane Art Museum in Topeka, KS, on Sept. 20, 2010. I don’t think I’ve ever actually given a presentation outside of school (save for a short teaching stint for studio art classes), so this will be interesting! I hope I don’t pass out or talk 100 mph. I’m actually very excited and am very much looking forward to it!
