Many big Thank You’s to the Lawrence Art Guild for using my artwork on this year’s Art in the Park poster!!! This Sunday, May 2, 2010, is the annual festival at South Park (not the cartoon, har har) in Lawrence, KS. I’m totally excited to get to be a part of it. You can help me by doing a little rain dance to make the forecasted rain stay away. Find more details about Art in the Park here!
I had dinner out in the country at a friend’s house the other night. Lucky her – she has a barred owl roosting in a tree trunk in her driveway! I’ve never seen a barred owl in person (in the wild, anyway). They have such mysterious faces and eyes- this is zoomed in pretty far, and the owl knew she (he?) had my attention – she turned her head and looked right at me. It didn’t help that I may have been squealing in delight… We saw her fly into the nest from a group of trees with a snake in her clutches. She was obviously feeding her young – she flew off empty-handed to a neighboring tree and let out the most amazing call. Click over to this link and listen to the sounds of the barred owl.

8 x 10 inches unframed. This paper cutting will be hanging in the group show “Art By The Park” at 1109 Gallery in Lawrence, KS, through June 7, 2010.
5 x 7 inch paper cutting.

1. Intact flower print in a burned out campfire.
2. Feather floating with a plastic cup. Probably pretty obvious without my explanation..
3. This last one may be less obvious.. Pelicans in Kansas!

Cut paper art. Measures 4 x 6 inches unframed.

The most awesome, friendly, welcoming door in my town. And possibly the most untouched door as well. An interesting addition to a seemingly abandoned warehouse.

My grandfather and great-grandfather used to own & operate a printing company many, many years ago in my hometown. I don’t know a whole lot about it, but I was excited to get to frame these relics for a family member recently. Included is an old ad for the company, and little wood cut caricature stamps of “Bill and Bob” (Bob, my grandfather, is on the right. His father is on the left).
