16 x 20 inches. More birds. Woo hoo!

More birds… 16 x 20 inches.

Here’s a look of what I’ve got coming for my February paper cutting exhibit at Crosstown Station in Kansas City. Inspired by the Rorschach psychological ink blot tests. I’ve got to get my hands on a translation of a book by Justinus Kerner from 1857. Titled “Kleksographien” – it’s a collection of poems, each inspired by an accidental ink blot. You can download it here but it’s in german. Verdammen!

Of the 8+ years I lived in NYC, I never once crossed the Brooklyn Bridge on foot. I have, however, torn across it in a little black Beetle, missing my exit more than once. Little bit frustrating ending up in downtown Manhattan traffic instead of on the FDR North when you’re trying to get to 96th Street. It didn’t take me long to figure out my way around the city after I got there. Getting lost is seemingly the best way to learn.
HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI: Through Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, I am donating 100% of sales on my 3 featured prints in my Etsy Store: “Broken Hearted”, “Heavy Things” & “The Starling” to UNICEF’s fund for the relief of children in Haiti. According to UNICEF’s website, “The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is absorbing all associated administrative costs so that 100% of every dollar you give to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF will support UNICEF’s relief efforts for children in Haiti.” If you’d like to donate directly, you can do so at https://secure.unicefusa.org/site/Donation2?df_id=6680&6680.donation=form1

Or, a picture of my grandmother reading LIFE magazine – approximately 1944. She still looks about the same today. This is one of my favorite photos ever. (Click the picture for a larger version on Flickr)
No “new” paper cuttings posted here for awhile – but I’ve got some things in the works, including some new work for an exhibit at Crosstown Station in Kansas City. This is the same place I exhibited last November and they’ve asked me to put some things up on the wall during the month of February. So stop by if you’re in the area – they’ll be up around Feb. 4.
I’ve also got a pretty big art fair coming up Feb. 12 – 14 at Ward Parkway Center in Kansas City. Working on some new things for that as well. More details when the date approaches.
Besides that, I’m working on another project that I’m really excited about (more down the road), starting into my role as a substitute college art teacher for the next month, thinking about some light stop-motion silhouette animation work I want to do (on my new lightbox!), and plotting out the next 6 months of my life – which includes a rented van and a “working” road trip to South Dakota. Paper cuttings coming soon.
