Fungus Among Us

Saturday a group of friends and I hiked the 4 mile looped trail around the Woodridge Area of Clinton Lake in Douglas County. The rain we’ve had over the last week spurred lots of mushrooms and fungi out of the ground. I’ve never seen so many varieties before on one outing. Today I’m heading out for a quiet night at a cabin at a county lake to watch the annual Perseid meteor shower. It should be a good show. And I’m sure lots of photos will come out of my evening and morning explorations. Til next time…

Minneapolis Uptown Art Fair

994858_10152132819328902_1573271091_n

Many thanks to all the folks that came out to the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis last weekend. It was my last show of the summer, and I’m finally home and settling back in without the pressure of having to get ready for another show and hitting the road again (tho it’s a good pressure — I enjoy it). I didn’t really get any time to look around Minneapolis, but the drive to and fro was pleasant, the weather was amazing all weekend, and from what I did see, the city is an interesting place to be. My hotel was next to the Minneapolis Global Market Exchange — it was like an indoor mall filled with all kinds of vendors selling global goods and foods. Again, no time to really explore it but I was glad to get to peak in.

I was excited to use my new Flourish Mesh Panels for the first time to display my artwork. This was a big change from the black gridwall that I’ve been using for the last 5 years… And about 275 pounds lighter. It definitely gave me more display space and makes my work pop out more, I think. Anyway, I’m very happy with them.

Lots of commissions and wholesale orders to fulfill. New vendor list, new available originals list, new prints added to my Etsy shop, and new blog posts coming very soon! Til then..

Polyphemus Moth #2

moth072813smI encountered my second ever Polyphemus Moth over the weekend. And strangely it was in the exact same spot as the first one that I saw over two years ago, give or take a few inches… This one seemed to be sleeping. As it got dark, it moved a bit, and by morning had left. As far as I know, they move about at night and only live about a week or so.. Here’s a link to the photo of the first one I saw in 2011, taken after it had dropped to the ground off the door: https://ruralpearl.com/blog/?p=2737

Recently…

Pardon me, loyal readers, for being so absent from my blog-a-log. I’ve been taking advantage of every break I get and doing as minimal as possible. Actually, that’s not true — I’ve been in simplify mode. I’ve been filtering through my house and getting rid of things that I don’t need, cleaning, etc. Otherwise, it’s been a pretty busy summer of paper cutting. I still have lots of new work that I have not yet posted here, which I will in the coming weeks. I head out Thursday for the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis, and then after that, my summer shows will be in the past. As will summer, really. Also in my past is my hair.. I decided I no longer needed it — it was almost down to my waist, and I woke up at 2am the other morning and decided it was time to let it go. I cut off a lot of the past along with it, so to speak. And now I’m enjoying a new sense of self. I’ve gotta do some sort of drastic transformation every so often..

Anyway, this record (These Trails) has been serving me well all summer on the road. It’s in my head now– never gets old. Til next time..
