I got my new animation workspace all set up over the weekend (except for my animation table contraption thingy – improvising for now) with all the equipment and software I need.. brainstorming and building will begin to take shape shortly. I’ve got a few more days of getting consignment orders and time sensitive work done and out the door and then I’m ready to let my mind and knives fly.. to make some peace-loving artwork. Til next time.
Love me some birds (San Diego, 2012), and love me some Roald Dahl.
“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” -Roald Dahl
As I plot out a cat commission, and only a few days after I had watched my own cat experience the effects of catnip, this video has come into my world. Hilarious. Surely it will influence this paper cutting that is about to be made.. Produced by Lawrence, KS, native Jason Willis.

Today I shipped out two big boxes of prints & cards to Collector Art in Berkeley, CA, and Bella Luz in Wichita. I’ll also be restocking Dundee Gallery this week, and putting my work in new vendor Nurture Botanicals & Bazil Essentials here in Lawrence.
I’m working on a few commissions presently, and I’ll also be taking down my works from the Lawrence Community Theater next week and will likely list those still available in my Etsy shop since I won’t have any shows coming up for awhile. I also added a bunch of prints to my Etsy shop. Thanks to all of you who have ordered over the last few days. You’re keeping me busy!
Looking forward to dinner with family and friends this friday — if you’ve read my blog for awhile, you’ll know I enjoy cooking for people (on an occasional basis, anyway). My recent record purchase, Inti-illimani (give them a listen HERE), gave me a hankering to cook South American food, so I’m putting on my apron (just kidding – I’m not that sophisticated) and hitting the kitchen. I’ve got my soundtrack for the night picked out, and it includes a cassette that I bought almost 20 years ago in San Francisco from some Peruvian street performers. It was the first time I can remember hearing that kind of music (pan flute, etc) and I took an instant liking to it.. Til next time.
I got my new Canon EOS 60D in the mail yesterday and I was surprised at how it dwarfs my Nikon D40.. Here they both are with the zoom lenses attached. I can’t wait to lug this thing out on some country roads for some wildlife (or at least some winter foliage) action. It’s been awhile.. I also can’t wait to get my animation rig set up. Computer with animation software should be in house by the end of the weekend, and I’m plotting out some sort of structure to animate on that will suspend the camera directly above my animation surface. I’ll probably start out with just a tripod above my lightbox since this is something that will have to be built.. but I’ve built one before (err, 9 years ago with wood and hot glue and aluminum foil…) and I’ll do it again, but hopefully it will be a little more sound this time.
Trying to stay warm on this most freezing day of the year.. I got home this morning from my mom’s house to find that my heater was not functioning. And 4 hours later, the repairman still hasn’t gotten it to turn on. So here I sit in hat, scarf, coat, under my down comforter keeping warm with my laptop. Wooooooo… Anyway, fyi, the Red Rhodes pedal steel solo beginning at 2:20 in this song is so, so, so good. Warms me right up (sort of.. mentally anyway).
