Crystal Clear November

I couldn’t pass up snapping some pics on my run this morning. Everything was so clear: the sky, the river, the songbirds singing, the brisk air, the moon and sun, my thoughts, my senses. Nature is very honest and reliable – it always shows us what is real, sometimes when we’re ready to see and sometimes when we’re not.

“Our lives are not as limited as we think they are; the world is a wonderfully weird place; consensual reality is significantly flawed; no institution can be trusted, but love does work; all things are possible; and we all could be happy and fulfilled if we only had the guts to be truly free and the wisdom to shrink our egos and quit taking ourselves so damn seriously.” -Tom Robbins

Happy November.

Music: Jay Ungar & Molly Mason Family Band – The Blackest Crow

This is a great arrangement and performance of the traditional ballad “The Blackest Crow” — such a great song. “I wish my heart was made of glass where in you might behold that there your name is written dear, in letters made of gold. In letters made of gold, my dear, believe me when I say, you are the only one for me until my dying day.” .. I totally worked out my own finger picking arrangement of this song on my ukulele. It’s pretty rugged, but that’s alright. I’ve only just begun (and my fingertips on my fret hand feel like they’re on fire)…

I did a gig poster back in 2009 that included Mike & Ruthy on the bill (who are performing in this video and are the daughter & son-in-law of Jay Ungar). It was a rare event that I made it away from my previous almost-all-consuming bakery life in NYC to see their show. They make a really great musical duo.

No Ceilings Tattoo Design

Awhile back, Chelsea S. contacted me to design a tattoo for her based on the saying “Ceilings don’t exist and there are no floors beneath me”. And with a few ideas that she sent my way, I came up with my “No Ceilings” paper cutting, which is still one of my all time favorites. I sent her the black & white file before adding some color and a moon.. She sent me the in progress photo soon thereafter, and I just today, for the first time quite awhile after the fact, saw the finished tattoo. So grooooovy! Thanks Chelsea!
