Design project in the works

8 x 10 inch paper cutting. The black & white tree design was commissioned for a tattoo based on the classic design “Book Tree” by artist Robert Whitmore, frequently used on bookplates starting in the 1930?s and still popular today. I then added color to make it complete for my own use, and it’ll be part of my exhibit that I’m hanging Friday in Lawrence (see calendar in the sidebar for details).
This design was commissioned by a former schoolmate who is opening a food truck in North Carolina.
Awhile back, Chelsea S. contacted me to design a tattoo for her based on the saying “Ceilings don’t exist and there are no floors beneath me”. And with a few ideas that she sent my way, I came up with my “No Ceilings” paper cutting, which is still one of my all time favorites. I sent her the black & white file before adding some color and a moon.. She sent me the in progress photo soon thereafter, and I just today, for the first time quite awhile after the fact, saw the finished tattoo. So grooooovy! Thanks Chelsea!
Sometimes I have to satisfy my inner photoshop nerd.. I got this image by tweaking a photo from the beach in Long Island layered with a photo of a bubble from last weekend.
I did this rooster for incorporation into this logo for the Salina, KS, restaurant back in 2010. The bad news is that they have since closed down. The good news is that the owners have gone on to open a bookstore & cafe that is so far thriving. The finished paper cutting had color, which I posted awhile back here.
This is a design I worked on but never came to full fruition. Based on things in California, including driftwood, sunsets, & cypress trees.
I just received word that Cady Wire has released their Saplings album for digital download. I did this cover art back in 2009 and I’m glad that the album is finally able to grace the public’s ears. Go preview it yourself and purchase your copy here: cadywire.bandcamp.com.
I also received word that Cady Wire has undergone some major changes over the last couple years, and Sam & Nila, two of the original band members, are now part of Goodbye Heart. I met these folks back in our NYC days, and we all dispersed across the country around the same time: I, to the midwest, and they, to Seattle. I’m looking forward to hearing the new sounds. Keep up with them on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/GoodbyeHeartBand.
This is a mock-up design that I did for something awhile back, and I felt like I should post it because it makes me think of spring and summer. And I could use a little spring and summer about now. These cold temperatures have been at our heels long enough.
When in Pennsylvania, go see STEVE– the band– cause a ruckus. They’ll steal your chickens and burn your barns. Just kidding. (I obviously don’t make a living writing promotional copy).
