It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

Cut Paper Art Print Holiday Tree Ornaments

Cut Paper Art Print Holiday Tree Ornaments

…that time of year! It’s been a busy week here, between recovering from last Sunday’s fair and ordering more supplies for the upcoming fair in Topeka, a birthday celebration, a bunch of new paper cuttings, and life.in.general. I’ve been thinking of some ideas for holiday tree ornaments and here is one that I came up with featuring my BiRD design. The squares are made out of pine and they are hung with black sheer organza ribbon. I’ve also got a couple other ornament designs up my sleeve and I’ll put them up here when I roll them out.

I’ve also got another goodie in the works. Part of it is on its way in the mail. The other part of it involves the purchase of the new Yudu Screen Printing Machine. I can not wait to try that out! I’ll show you what I’ve got when I’ve got it! All of these new things I’m making *should* be available at the Cider Days Festival on Sept. 26 & 27th in Topeka, KS. Please make it out if you can – proceeds from this festival benefit The American Lung Association of Kansas. Read more about it here.

Remember this cut paper design I did awhile back? Well, I had it screen printed locally on some navy fabric, and then I learned how to use a sewing machine and whipped up some pillows. The back is a khaki colored fabric, complete with a hidden zipper and Rural Pearl’s stamp, or rather, tag of approval. I admit, my sewing skills could use some improvement (reference the fraying of my tag), but its pretty neat having a design on something other than paper. I think there may be more of this.. bags.. shirts maybe.. Any ideas?
These will be in my Etsy store very soon. They’ll also be available at my upcoming art fair in Lawrence this Sunday (yikes!), for which I’m just about ready. Hoping that some of you will be able to make it out! Also hoping for pleasant weather (fingers crossed)…

Next cutting coming up: a winter scene, bird included, of course. I’m using 4 layers of paper for this one. This is new for me – I’ve never used 4 full pages of paper for one cutting – bits and pieces maybe, but never the full page. So we’ll see what comes of it.. Anyway, it’s a gray day today. Its only September, but the weather is cooling, and, well, winter is my favorite season, so I look forward to it. I’ve got my winter playlist playing (a little Sera Cahoone, Julie Miller, Neil Young, Meat Puppets, Bela Fleck, Jenny Lewis, Cady Wire, blah blah blah, etc etc etc etc… it’s a lot of songs…) and I’ve been cutting all morning. Now’s for the assembly, mounting and framing. Next post: the full monty… Stay tuned.
