This is what my desk looked like at noon. I finally had to clean it off.. I kept losing things in the pile. Like my phone.. my lunch.. ehhh.. I think I could safely say that I’ve entered the paper cutting ultra-marathon zone and I’m not coming out until Tuesday afternoon which is my cutoff time so that I can hit the pool for a few (it is summer after all), pack my car, and wake up very early Wednesday to head out to Denver/ Colorado for my next three shows. Lots of things to look forward to there. Even though this trip involves work, it’s gonna feel like a vacation after these last few (or however many) weeks of non-stop cutting, gluing, printing, working, etc… I am ready for some fresh mountain air. Now I’ll go do a little rain dance for all the people, animals, etc., affected by all the wildfires out there.

…I never get any work done when my family is here – things always get a little zany… time to lock myself in my workroom.

I took a leisurely stroll downtown to buy frozen yogurt and ended up buying this as well.. Surely many future photos and stories to share on the ol’ blog-a-log.. but first, I have to figure out how to use it. And before I figure out how to use it, I have to get a ton more work ready for my next couple art fairs. Been plugging away all day getting new stock ready to send out to Bella Luz Gifts in Wichita, KS, Consider Boutique in Louisville, KY, and a new vendor, Collector Art Shop, in Berkeley, CA.

It always takes me a few days to bounce back after a weekend long show.. my mental energy is floating down some serene creek in the kayak that I’m about to buy as I stare at a blank piece of paper. I did however manage to run three miles and clean my kitchen AND my workroom this morning (note: after the last three weeks of show prep, the state of affairs in here was mighty horrendous.. cleaning is always easy when you have other pressing things to do). I also had breakfast on my deck with my squirrels and birds- I’m currently being visited by chickadees, a nuthatch, a Flicker, a pair of cardinals, a bluejay, mourning doves and grackles — I’m a total bird nerd, among other kinds of nerd. Til next time (with finished paper cuttings, I think)…

Since my neighboring squirrels ate my other sunflower sprouts, I’ve got a few new ones growing in my window.. They’ll probably be eaten as well once I transplant them to the yard, but it’s fun watching them grow at this point anyway..
I woke up early again to mat more prints. Only about 125 more to go.. Oy! Then I walked downtown (walking is underrated — it’s soooo nice out) to meet with Colorado-based artist Sarah Fritzler to talk about all things art-business related. Check out her website here: www.sarahfritzler.com. And now back to more printing and matting.

I think I’m burning my printer out. It’s been running pretty steadily all day.. Lots more prints printed, and lots of new prints that I haven’t yet offered to the public. And lots of matting to do in the morning. And then a chicken with it’s head cut off.. so to speak (kinda how I feel right now). My printer is rebelling. I think I’ll give it a break and call it quits for the day.

Zeleny Art Fair this Saturday in Parkville, MO. Lawrence Art In The Park the following weekend, and Wichita Art & Book Fair the weekend after that. Lots of events coming up… lots of things left to do. I think regardless of how prepared I am, I’ll never feel prepared.

Busy day printing prints, greeting cards, making more magnets & buttons, etc.. Sometimes I think about outsourcing all this printing work… but I guess I mostly like the idea of doing it all myself. Gives me more flexibility.

I guess I could safely say that I’m entering the thick of art fair preparations and I’m adopting my seasonal schedule of “up at 4am to mat prints..”. I usually get up early, but my early morning activities generally only entail sitting around with a cup of coffee for a couple hours. I’m hoping to actually be prepared this year without stressing. Last year, I traveled with lots of extra supplies to Colorado so that I could keep working while I was there and it really took up lots of extra space in my vehicle (even had to ship some stuff..). I’m trying to travel lighter this year..
Things I didn’t accomplish: I didn’t get my animation finished for the Free State Film Fest – that’ll have to wait. Couldn’t match my ideas/ visuals/ available time in my head. And I bugged out trying to update my website – I have an outdated version of WordPress and I need to back up my blog, update software, etc.. This is something I’ll have to pay somebody to do. I’d likely accidently delete the whole thing if I tried to do it myself. Any takers? .. Gonna wait on it for a bit anyway.
Back to the cutting, matting, printing, framing, day-dreaming, coffee-drinking grind.

…and breaking screws, chipping frames, cutting fingers.. This is my least favorite part of the whole process.. Without fail, once I get something in the frame and sealed up, I find dust on the inside of the glass. But, once I get it cleaned out (again and again and again), I get to my most favorite part which is seeing the paper cuttings under glass.
