Sunflowers in the Sky II – Cut Paper Art & random other info..

8 x 10 inch paper cutting.

Many thanks to all the folks that came out to my talk at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library yesterday! We were about 2 seats shy of a full room, and I managed to ramble on for almost a full hour and a half. This talk was in conjunction with the “A Cut Above” exhibit at the Alice Sabatini Gallery inside the library. This exhibit closes July 13.

In other (un)news, one of my life “facets” is to always be aware of the step you’re about to take, always know the step you just took, and feel the ground as you walk. This morning, I was doing none of the above while walking barefoot and I’m quite sure I broke one of my toes. Luckily, one that is little utilized.. It gave me an excuse to lay on the couch for an hour with my feet propped (while I should be working on a paper cutting…)

And last but not least, I thought I should put out the word for potential Etsy buyers that I will be keeping my shop open while I’m traveling for my next three shows, but I won’t be shipping any orders placed on Tuesday and after until I return on July 25. You’re welcome to order if you don’t mind waiting a bit.

Til next time…

Desk-a-mess-a-rama

This is what my desk looked like at noon. I finally had to clean it off.. I kept losing things in the pile. Like my phone.. my lunch.. ehhh.. I think I could safely say that I’ve entered the paper cutting ultra-marathon zone and I’m not coming out until Tuesday afternoon which is my cutoff time so that I can hit the pool for a few (it is summer after all), pack my car, and wake up very early Wednesday to head out to Denver/ Colorado for my next three shows. Lots of things to look forward to there. Even though this trip involves work, it’s gonna feel like a vacation after these last few (or however many) weeks of non-stop cutting, gluing, printing, working, etc… I am ready for some fresh mountain air. Now I’ll go do a little rain dance for all the people, animals, etc., affected by all the wildfires out there.

The Sun is Mighty – Cut Paper Art

11 x 14 inch paper cutting. I’m not really sure where this came from.. it’s a little different from my usual but I felt like doing it so I did it. The underlying idea is basically that we humans are just small fries even though we tend to think we’re much bigger than we are.

The title especially rings true here in Kansas where the 10 day forecast expects 100+ degree days and zero precipitation. Today hit 103.. I lucked out having finished all my outdoor art festivals here. And, I feel so lucky that I have working A/C in my house. I remember a few summers when I lived in Brooklyn without it… Miserable.

Des Moines Recap

I had a great weekend in Des Moines. The show turned out better than I expected. Thanks to everyone who came out. The drive to and from were both pleasant, but the sunset on the way home sort of erased everything before, after, and around. This picture that I snapped on my phone doesn’t do it justice. The sun was a giant orangish-pink ball illuminating the sky and silhouetting everything on the ground.. I sort of just wanted to dive into it.

I’m leaving for Denver a week from Wednesday (in appx 8 days) for my next three shows, which means I’m knee deep in work and going a little crazy. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival (in Denver) was my best show last year, and I’m hoping to be at least AS prepared as I was last year… Til next time.
